It is not recommend to eat right before the sauna – high blood flow through the skin can interfere with digesting process.

Always rest for 15 minutes after a sauna session. Shower off and then relax after a sauna session to allow the body to readjust. Do not go right back to daily activities. The more one relaxes, the more one will sweat.

Use a sauna twice a week to twice a day. If one is very debilitated, begin with once a week. Work up to daily use as you are able to do so.

Begin with only 20 minutes in the sauna . After a few sessions, only if you feel well enough to do so, you may increase to 30 or even 45 minutes. If debilitated or very heat sensitive, begin with 15 minutes or less in the sauna .

Always consult a health professional if one has a chronic illness.

Pregnant women and children under five should avoid saunas. Young children must be accompanied by an adult.

Far Infrared energy is a low energy form of light which penetrates the skin layers to effect the cells below, stimulating healthy metabolism and blood circulation. Profuse sweating is an excellent way to rehabilitate the skin and quickly rids the body of toxins Dr. Sherry Rogers (Fellow of the American College of Allergy and Immunology and a Diplomate of the American Academy of Environmental Medicine ) in her book Detoxify or Die says that an infrared sauna is the only way, proven with before and after data, of removing man-made toxins from your body.

Provides These Benefits:

A recently reported study conducted by Ju Hee Lee, Mi Ryung Roh, and Kwang Hoon Lee in the Department of Dermatology and Cutaneous Biology Research Institute at the Yonsei University College of Medicine, Seoul, Korea reported " IR (infrared radiation) may result in beneficial effects on skin texture and wrinkles by increasing collagen and elastin in the dermis ".

They also suggest that Infrared may have use in treating photo- aged skin. So it's possible that wrinkles and skin blemishes caused by bad skin care, sunbathing or maybe even sunburn can be reduced with an infrared sauna .

The study report called " Effect of Infrared Radiation on Skin Photo-Aging and Pigmentation " is available online and contains a pair of before and after photos showing one of the subjects with
plentiful eye wrinkles before treatment and an obvious reduction in eye wrinkles afterwards.

A summary of the study and a link to the full PDF report (with the before and after photos) can is available.

All the study subjects reported good improvements in their skin texture and roughness. The objective clinical assessment of the subjects skin found "that the content of collagen and elastin produced by the fibroblasts increased after infrared radiation".

The study doesn't categorize wrinkles as forehead wrinkles, neck wrinkles, eye wrinkles or other skin wrinkles but given its success with eye wrinkles shown in the photos and the fact that collagen is increased by the infrared it seems likely that other wrinkles are equally improved. The amount of collagen and elastin increased was related to the length of time the subject was given infrared over the six months of the study. Of course plastic surgeons use collagen (derived from animals) to inject under areas of a patients skin to reduce or eliminate wrinkles.
